I kind of want to get a FRS or BRZ and supercharge it with this supercharger. Wondering what autocross class it would be in. (probably SM or something) and thinking how much it would cost to get forced induction friendly pistons put in to get the most out of a kit like this.
I have a 2014 Mustang GT as a daily and it’s just too good but it’s also too big. I want a small sports car. However every time I get automotive ADD I realize what I have and I can’t pull the trigger lol.
I was previous looking at Fiat 124 Abarths but I don’t really like convertables and I hate the color selections of it.

I’m at the stage of I want FI for my BRZ but my wallet is screaming no... how much do kidneys go for on the black market?

This kit and others can get you like 240whp without building your engine which is fine and they are garage install friendly. But then I would want to get a proper compression ratio to run more boost (i have no e85 or 93 fuel options) and get even more. It would be a slippery slope.
I like most everything about these cars, the way they look, the way they feel, the weight, etc. I would feel a serious lack of something though stepping from a 420hp car to 200 where I would need to mod it lol.
If this ADD doesn’t go away in a couple of weeks I might go for it.

Well if your main goal is autocross, what is the point of going FI? Stockish BRZs in CS are pretty good.

Just say “fuck it” and get a second gen MR2 turbo. Fast, light, reliably boosted into the 300s, and more likely to kill you.

Things like this is why I end up not switching cars lol. However I do not do autocross seriously, more like for fun.
Doing a SP Fiat 124 probably would be more along the lines of what I would want to do in terms of what I would want from a road car. However SP or SM would be equally as difficult for me.
If i’m doing that I might as well just run my skyline in E mod because I have an equal chance of being competitive there lmao.
I like modding the cars for power and having what I want to drive more than about autocross. I did consider a VW GTI with PP though for street

Funny enough I tried to buy two of them before I imported a Skyline.
I do have that car, it is fun to drive. It’s just I would like the CHANGE or the opportunity to have a car for autocross in a class that makes sense. I would NEVER want to E-Mod prep my skyline. A SP MR2 though? Sounds like fun.

If you sell your kidneys...your car is going to move! You'll be able to do everything!

I probably wouldn’t want to go for insane power, likely some like 10:1 pistons would be enough for me and otherwise a stock block. Unless they are not known for being very strong.

With forced induction the FRS would probably be in SSM or something. If I were you, i would think about building a STX Frs/brz. Power wise, they are limited to headers and e85 and a few other small bolt ons. Still very fast on the autocross course(although nowhere near a FI frs on the street).
As for the Abarth, they come with a hardtop or convertible top, so you have options. They are fun little daily driver and can be had with huge discounts. That being said, they are not great as an autox car(torsion beam rear suspension and skinny and tall height), especially since they are classed in GS with the much much faster Focus St’s. I owned one for two years, and ran it a few times as an autox car.
Go with the Frs, or keep the mustang and come run it in FS with all of us! (I drive a ‘16 GT that i regularly auto-x in FS).

Well if you are doing it for fun, then who cares about being competitive? I run CSP with no hope of ever winning just because I enjoy running Hoosiers (bro). I have actually won a trophy (nice glass mug) because I was the only one in my class once. FRS/BRZ with a supercharger sounds like less fun for autocross but more fun for a track day. More power is the last thing I would want, there are times that I don’t have my foot on the floor in my Miata.

Get an 86, they are great sports cars. I recently got an ‘01 BMW 330i to use as a daily and eventual drift car, and after driving my BRZ for couple years, the bimmer feels night & day different. Shifter throws like a truck, long dead clutch, and big body roll, I laugh when i get back into the BRZ and everything is short and taught (even with stock suspension).
As for FI on the 86's, there’s no need for forged internals unless you are going after a ton of power. I’ve got the Innovate SC, and it makes it a great daily driver, lots of TQ down low and good pull all the way to redline.

“Well if you are doing it for fun, then who cares about being competitive?”
This is the exact reason that while deciding on what car I want for Rally Cross I’m going with a fox platform Mustang or Capri. I’m in it for fun and spinning the tires all the way around the track (if I choose to) sounds like so much fun to me that I don’t care if I’m competitive.

I would LIKE 300whp but I want to see if I will like 240whp first lol. If I did a build and it required any more than just pistons (i don’t want a complete ridiculous build) I wouldn’t do it.

I’m talking about the 124 abarth, the Miata based car. Opinions on that?

True, it would just be nice to have that option open.
One thing though is I plan on starting doing track days within the next year. I was going to go to Laguna Seca this month but I had wrecked the car I was going to take into that (since has been fixed) and it delayed my prepped it for track. I could have a track car and a autocross car though but I would probably have to ditch one due to budget constraints unless I run street which is why I was looking at the GTI and Focus ST.

In your main post you said 500 abarth though :) and I think the 124 Abarth is a decent looking car, not sure how much you can really do with it as it’s not like the FRS/BRZ with huge aftermarket support

Even better is that this is a mantra that quite a few other people actually take as well, so you actually have some competitors in mismatched cars who end up being somewhat comparable. I actually wish that things like autox and rallyx had a “fun class” that was still competitive in spirit but didn’t really have restrictions to mods. It shouldn’t have a trophy but it can still have the glory of winning! Obviously that could get out of hand real fast but if kept within the spirit of the idea, it would be a lot of fun.

GTI/ST could be great do-it-all cars. But so can the Mustang you already have. Since being "too big" is a complaint, I doubt something else even more practical is going to solve that issue. Something more like the FRS, a Miata, MR2, maybe a Lotus (because why not).

Ah. Your post said 500 Abarth.
Opinion-
Will be interested to see of they fall in CS with the ND Miata and Frs/Brz(considering the extra power). If it does, it will be very competitive. As far as looks go, IMO the Miata is much better executed. Just make sure you fit- im 6ft and after spending a few hours behind the wheel of a friends ND, i was getting pretty uncomfortable.

My dream car for this would be a Lotus Evora S. Unfortunately they are still $50k used. They are like FRS sized

We have that in Rally X - it’s the X class, no trophies run basically whatever in it.
Oh and I’ve raced a Mercury Milan and plan to do it at least 1 more time (next month) so I’m definitely in it for the fun of it.

Oh neato, I need to do rallyx some day as well as ice racing, it just seems like so much fun! I ought to use another vehicle though since I am actually trying to fix the paint on my Miata rather than ruin it more lol.

I’d try riding in and driving a couple 86's both stock and modded before pushing for more power. I came from v8's and turbo cars, and thought stock power was actually alright for awhile. But I did miss the low down torque, and that’s why I went with the supercharger eventually. Don’t get me wrong, more power is always nice, but right now as is, it’s great and doesn’t “need” any more.

haha, just registered for the september race this morning.
And it’s insanely fun. The Miata’s I’ve seen race in it all had super chargers on them. They were pretty damn fast. Also it’s an SCCA requirement to have a hard top to go out for RallyX so if you don’t have one you can’t race the miata anyhow.

Well yeah that too. I hope its also a requirement to do a roll bar, since that hard top is not going to do a whole lot for you lol. I could definitely find it enjoyable to rallyx a Miata!

Ahh so it's like Florida where those motorcycle helmets that are basically as useless as baseball caps are totally legal. Regardless of the rules, I would definitely want a roll bar for that sort of activity! Wonder what the purpose of the hard top is though.
